3 Simple DIY Plumbing Tips

Not all plumbing repairs require a plumber. And while we at Plumbing Medic do it all, big and small, we also want to empower you to tackle simple fixes!

Below, we take a look at a few DIY (do-it-yourself) plumbing tips:

1. How to change a washer hose

First, make sure you shut your valves off. Then, turn your washing machine on and off to relieve the pressure out of the hose. Using a pair of channel locks, loosen the hose. Replace your old washing machine hose with a braided stainless steel hose. Hook it onto the valve, and tighten it until it’s snug. Watch the video below for step-by-step instructions:

2. How to clean a drain with a Zip-It

Insert the Zip-It into the pop-up assembly. Go slow to avoid damage to the P-trap. Slowly rotate the Zip-It, and bring it back up. This will catch hair, buildup, and other debris inside the drain. We recommend following this with a drain treatment. See Lead Technician Jesse Sage do it below:

3. How to stop an overflowing toilet

If you flush a clogged toilet, the fill valves will keep putting water into your bowl, making it overflow completely. To prevent an overflow, reach into the back of the tank and lift up on the fill valve. Then, reach down and shut the water off. Watch our YouTube demonstration here:
