Is there a funky smell coming from your kitchen or bathroom sink? We know how frustrating this can be! Before you turn to liquid drain cleaners, here are a few of the most common reasons why — and what you can do to safely freshen things up.
Why Your Sink Smells:
There’s something wrong with your p-trap. Check underneath your sink to make sure that you have a p-trap installed. This sink essential keeps gases from coming back up your drain and into your kitchen or bathroom. Use a pipe snake to get rid of any clogs. This will help get rid of any sewer gases that are seeping back up into your home.
There’s food stuck in your garbage disposal. If the smell is coming from your kitchen sink drain, there may be food stuck in your disposal. Throw a few ice cubes and lemon peels down your disposal to break away particles and freshen things up.
Your drains are clogged. If you don’t have a garbage disposal in your kitchen sink, it may be that your drain is clogged. Try pouring some hot water and baking soda down your drain to flush it out. Of course, if you are still running into problems, our professionals are here to help clear things up.
It’s the water. Check with our municipality to see if there is anything going on with the water in your region. They will be able to provide you with any information that you may need.
