Recently, have you noticed a few droplets of water coming from your plumbing pipes? Sure, it might not be a massive leak — but it is something. If that’s the case, did you take care of the problem or did you let it sit there? If you happened to let it sit there, then that could lead to some more significant issues down the road, such as:
Could Raise your Water Bill
Believe it or not, one of the most common signs of a leaking pipe is that it could raise your water bill without an explanation.
Of course, your bill won’t rise to astronomical heights — but the leak will make a decent dent on your monthly statement. Indeed, you may be perplexed as to what is raising the grand total — but the factor could be as simple as a pipe leak.
Cause an Electrical Fire
Another incident that could happen, if you ignore the leak, is an electrical fire. Nine out of ten times, your plumbing pipes are either near electrical wires or an electrical outlet.
Regardless of what may be near them, if something is hot with electricity, then a droplet of water can start a fire — which is a huge problem.
Start a Flood
If you ignore the leak for an extended period (or even a few days), then it has the potential to start a flood in your home. Sometimes a leak can indicate pressure build-up — which is a telltale sign that the pipe is ready to burst.
This will, of course, create an ocean in your home, that will cause irreversible damage (especially for those homes without flood insurance). Regardless, even if the leak is the size of a pinhole, it should be taken care of immediately.
Decrease Water Pressure
When using your sink or shower, have you noticed a slight decrease in your water pressure? If that’s the case, then it will only get worse if you continue to ignore the leak.
Believe it or not, even the smallest of pipe leaks can cause a decrease in water pressure — which is beyond frustrating if you feel as if your water it lagging.
