Whether you’re traveling to a neighboring state or a country miles away, there’s nothing better than going on vacation! And while you may have had your fair share of vacations in the past, there are always some new “pro tips” to take into consideration before heading out the front door. To protect your home while you’re away, give these tips a try!
Shut the Water Off
No matter how long your vacation will be, if no one is going to be present in your home during that time, it’s essential to turn the water off. The reason being is that shutting off your main water valve will prevent any potential plumbing problems from arising in your absence.
And if a pipe bursts or a plumbing fixture leaks, you’ll return home to a dry home. Of course, the minute you walk through your front door, it’s best to turn the water on right away, let a few faucets run, and you should be good to go!
Set Your Thermostat
When you went away the last time, did you remember to adjust your thermostat? Believe it or not, it’s easy to forget this step since it’s something straightforward to overlook — especially if you’re already in “vacation mode.”
Now, depending on the time of the year, it’s essential to make sure that you adjust your thermostat for the correct temperature. For example, if it’s the winter, make sure that you set the temperature to at least 55 degrees, just so your pipes won’t have a chance of freezing no matter what climate you live in.
